TAMPA — Rep. Betty Reed, D-Tampa, has endorsed Ed Narain as her successor in the District 61 House of Representatives race.
Narain, an ATT&T area manager and former University of South Florida student body president, is running against three others in the Democratic primary.
"I'm supporting Ed Narain to replace me because our concerns for the community are the same," Reed said in a statement. "Ed has the community roots, the servant heart, and the fighting spirit to carry the torch for Tampa."
Her endorsement of Narain joins those of other East Tampa leaders including County Commissioner Les Miller, former Tampa City Council member Gwen Miller; state Sen. James T. "Jim" Hargrett and former School Board member Doris Ross-Reddick.
"I have always been motivated to improve my community," Narian said, "and to have the support, prayers, and encouragement of Rep. Reed and others is a humbling honor."
Narain vies against Sean Shaw, Tatiana Denson and Sharon Carter in the Aug. 26 primary.
