School principal to run for Dunedin commission

DUNEDIN — Reuben C. Hepburn, former principal of Dunedin High School and now principal of Gibbs High School in St. Petersburg, plans to run for Seat 3 of the commission this November.

As a 10-year resident of the city, he says he hopes to be a listening ear for residents who feel like local government hasn't heard them in the past.

"We need strong leadership for the future of this city," he said. "(Residents') recommendations for how to handle the growth that our city is experiencing aren't being considered."

Heburn, 45, said he also wants to find better ways to educate residents who have questions about policies and decisions made by city officials.

"I know if sounds like a utopian way of running government, but, for a small city like Dunedin, I think we can accommodate that," he said. "We just need to take the time."
