• A campaign rally for James "Eddie" McConnell will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Country Kitchen, 20133 Cortez Blvd., Brooksville. McConnell, a Democrat, is running for Hernando County sheriff.
• The Greater Hernando County Chamber of Commerce's Government Affairs Committee will host "Politics in the Park" from 5 to 8 p.m. July 12 at the Hernando County Fairgrounds, 6436 S Broad St., Brooksville.
This will be an old-fashioned political rally where the public can meet local, state and federal candidates. Visitors will be able to participate in a straw poll administered by the Hernando County supervisor of elections, register to vote and enter a drawing to win two tickets to a Tampa Bay Rays baseball game.
