Pinellas County Commissioner John Morroni announced Wednesday that his cancer has returned.
Morroni, who was treated for non-Hodgkins lymphoma in 2008, said he met with doctors at Moffitt Cancer Center in Tampa who confirmed the news Tuesday. He is awaiting test results while the cancer team at Moffitt can determine a treatment strategy, which includes chemotherapy.
The news that his cancer returned was disturbing, Morroni said.
A former Republican state representative, Morroni, 56, was first elected to the commission in 2000 and was recently named commission chairman for 2012.
Morroni said he plans to work during his treatment as he did in 2008. He missed only one meeting while going through six months of chemotherapy and five weeks of radiation.
