TAMPA — Prominent land use lawyer David Singer says he's filing paperwork to run as a Democrat for the state House District 60 seat being vacated by Rep. Dana Young.

Singer said he'll make an announcement in the form of an email blast to friends and supporters as soon as he learns his paperwork has been accepted.

Singer, 38, co-founder of the Singer & O'Donniley law firm, is new to politics but has been active in community issues, including directing the Moving Hillsborough Forward transit referendum in 2010. He said he's "a very moderate, pro-business Democrat" and "I'm going to knock on a lot of doors and introduce myself to a lot of people."

Young is leaving the seat to run for the state Senate.

So far no other Democrat has entered the race. Two Republicans have filed — construction company executive Rebecca Smith and former Tampa City Council candidate and engineer Jackie Toledo.

Singer, who lives in Ballast Point, graduated from the University of Michigan as an undergraduate and law student and moved to Tampa in 2008 to work with the Holland & Knight law firm before starting his own.

His wife Allison Singer is a teacher at Trinity School for Children in West Tampa. They have two young daughters.

District 60 includes all of South Tampa and extends along Tampa Bay north to Town 'N Country and south to Ruskin.
