Third Republican files for District 5 commission seat

A third Republican has entered the race for the District 5 seat on the Hernando County Commission.

Amanda Chudyk, 36, prefiled paperwork this month seeking the seat held by Republican Commissioner Jim Adkins, who has decided to not seek another term.

A massage therapist, Chudyk has not sought public office before but said that in her 14 years in Hernando County she has grown to love the community and wants to serve it. She was recently appointed to the county's library advisory board and on her application she noted that she was thinking about running for commission.

Chudyk said that her approach to being a commissioner will be to listen to the needs of Hernando County's residents, understand what they are asking for, and then use common sense to provide for their needs. Originally from the Chicago area, she is married and has eight children.

Chudyk joins Steven Champion and former Commissioner and state Rep. Dave Russell in seeking the commission seat.
