BROOKSVILLE — A third challenger has prefiled paperwork to run against incumbent John Druzbick for the District 3 seat on the Hernando County Commission.

Greg Sheldon, 32, said he decided to make his first run for public office because "like everybody else, I'm tired of the way things are going.''

A Pennsylvania native who grew up in Hernando County and graduated from Central High School in 1997, Sheldon has been in construction since he was 18. About six years ago, he opened his own building business, GCLS Contracting Inc.

Sheldon said he is concerned about the way the county spends its money and how it handles contracts, including those for major projects such as road projects and the Hernando Beach Channel dredge.

"They could be managing their money better,'' he said, pointing to his own experience running a business as giving him insight into more frugal ways to handle budget issues.

Sheldon, who is still in the process of building his political platform, said he also doesn't believe the county is doing enough to add needed jobs in the community.

Sheldon is running as with no party affiliation, as is Tanya Lee Marsh. Republican Jason Patrick Sager is also challenging fellow Republican Druzbick.
