Third Republican candidate files to replace Kevin Ambler in state House District 47

TAMPA — Retired Verizon executive Irene Guy filed Tuesday to run for the District 47 Florida House seat in 2010.

Republican Kevin Ambler now holds the post, but is term-limited out of the position. He's making a bid for the District 12 Florida Senate seat.

Guy, 59, is a Republican making her first run for public office. She retired from her job as Verizon's director of public policy and community relations about a month ago.

"I've still got lots of energy and time, and I've always been interested in politics," Guy said. She said her top priorities are the economy and education.

"And, of course, we all are interested in health care. That is just an enormous issue right now," she said.

Two other Republicans have already filed to run for the seat: Tom Aderhold, and Richard Reidy, an aide to Hillsborough County Commissioner Ken Hagan. Democrat Christopher Mitchell and William Burda, a member of the Independent Party, also have filed to run.

Former Hillsborough County Commissioner Brian Blair, a Republican, says he, too, will run to replace Ambler and plans to file "soon."

"I'm just kind of getting all my ducks in a row," he said.
