Lynyrd Skynyrd cancels RNC concert

Southern rock icons Lynyrd Skynyrd have canceled a Sunday night RNC concert because of the looming threat of Tropical Storm Isaac. No word on whether the invitation-only show — to be performed in Liberty Plaza, a tented performance space close to the Tampa Bay Times Forum — will be rescheduled.

Skynyrd lead singer Johnny Van Zant released a statement: "With the weather conditions unknown and for the safety of our fans and friends, it is best to cancel the show and not put anyone in harm's way."

Private concerts at Liberty Plaza later in the week — including those by Trace Adkins, Kid Rock and Journey — are still a go.
