TAMPA — First lady Michelle Obama plans to visit an international food store in Tampa Thursday to promote My Plate, or Mi Plato, a federal initiative to encourage healthy eating.
The event is closed to the public. Security over Mrs. Obama's visit will force morning closure of the grocery, the National Supermarket at 8401 N Armenia Ave. in Central Tampa.
Mrs. Obama will join Goya Foods president Bob Unanue near noon. They're expected to announce a partnership between Goya and the U.S. Department of Agriculture to increase awareness of Mi Plato among Hispanics. Goya is the nation's largest Hispanic-owned food company.
