The staff of PolitiFact has been honored by the Society of Professional Journalists' annual Sigma Delta Chi Awards.

PolitiFact's coverage of the 2016 election won for public service in online journalism affiliated with a media organization. PolitiFact is a fact-checking project started in 2007 by the Tampa Bay Times. The winning entry includes stories fact-checking the Democratic and Republican national conventions, a fact sheet on Hillary Clinton's email controversy, a fact-check of Donald Trump saying "there is large scale voter fraud happening on and before election day" and a story detailing 17 times Trump said one thing and then denied it.

The Society of Professional Journalists' Sigma Delta Chi Awards date back to 1932, covering national print, radio, television and online journalism. This year's winners will be honored June 23 at a banquet at the National Press Club in Washington, D.C.
