Commission candidates schedule fundraisers
Neil Brickfield and Janet Long, who are facing each other in the race for the District 1 seat on the Pinellas County Commission, have both set Wednesday fundraisers.
Long's reception is scheduled for 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Club at Treasure Island, 400 Treasure Island Causeway. Members of the host committee include retiring state Rep. Rick Kriseman and Scott Wagman, who ran an unsuccessful campaign in 2009 for St. Petersburg mayor.
Brickfield's is scheduled for 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Kingfish Grill & Tap House, 3580 Ulmerton Road, Largo. Those attending should send their RSVP to firstname.lastname@example.org. Members of Brickfield's host committee include Pinellas County Sheriff Bob Gualtieri and state Reps. Peter Nehr, R-Tarpon Springs, Ed Hooper, R-Clearwater, and Jamie Grant, R-Tampa. Other members of the host committee include Oldsmar Mayor Jim Ronecker, Safety Harbor Mayor-elect Joe Ayoub and Seminole City Council member Leslie Waters.
Brickfield, a Republican, is running for his second term on the commission. He is a former Safety Harbor commissioner.
Long is a Democrat who served in the State House and on the Seminole City Council. Seat 1 is an at-large position that is elected countywide. County commissioners serve four-year terms and are paid $90,389 a year. The election is in November.
