It begins with a woman who yearns for a baby and another who is willing and able to give her one. You can imagine the motives of the prospective parents. But what about the woman willing to carry a baby, give birth and then walk away?

TALLAHASSEE — His new fiancee at his side, Gov. Charlie Crist today kicks off an 11-day mission to England, France, Spain and Russia focusing on aerospace, aviation and alternative energy sources, including nuclear power.
Crist's third trade mission as governor is intended to strengthen Florida's ties with Europe while adding depth to his resume as he is mentioned as a possible Republican vice presidential candidate.
Democrats criticize the trip as a costly "junket," but the governor said the work is serious.
"I hope to generate economic opportunities for Florida," Crist said in an interview a few days before he left from Miami.
The trip will include a tour of a nuclear waste processing plant near Paris as well as:
• Meetings with senior officials in the United Kingdom, France and Spain.
• Attendance at a climate change forum in London.
• A ceremony at the Normandy American Cemetery, where 9,387 U.S. soldiers are buried.
Crist also will make what he called a "sister city" trip to St. Petersburg, Russia, the namesake of his Florida home town.
"There's an awful lot of Russian investment in Florida real estate," he said. "We want to continue to encourage that."
The 94-person entourage includes top Florida utility executives and a dozen representatives of Enterprise Florida Inc.
EFI, the state's public-private business development arm, is paying travel costs for Crist and other state officials, including a state-employed photographer.
While staff members stay in rooms costing about $500 a night, Crist will stay in suites with work and meeting space that cost as much as $1,800 a night.
The trip comes as growing numbers of Floridians abandon vacations for "stay-cations" to save money. Democrats say it is ill-timed in light of record gas prices and tight government budgets.
"No responsible governor would have the audacity to spend more than $225,000 of the taxpayers' money jet-setting around Europe with his fiancee," said Democratic Party spokesman Eric Jotkoff.
Carole Rome, who accepted Crist's marriage proposal last week, was already on the travel list as a "delegate" representing her New York-based company, a wholesaler of Halloween costumes.
Crist has said it is vital to promote business in Florida in tough times. Enterprise Florida said his trip to Brazil last fall generated more than $300-million in "actual and anticipated" sales, including a 200-job expansion plan by the Brazilian aircraft maker Embraer.
He also will meet with leaders of three major aerospace firms: Boeing, Northrop Grumman and Lockheed Martin.
On Monday, Crist will inaugurate the Florida Pavilion at the world's second-largest aerospace show, the Farnborough International Air Show. The next day, Crist and Insurance Commissioner Kevin McCarty will meet with the chairman of Lloyd's of London. "Insurance always is an important issue in Florida, especially as it relates to our storms," Crist said. "So I hope that can be productive and helpful."

While other people in the state government are losing their jobs because the budget hasn't got enough money, the Gov goes on a prehoneymoon trip and John has the gall to blame the Dems.for our woes. John, you need a brain scan to see if you have one.

Wow! I didn't know you were allowed to waste the tax payer's money and brag about it. By the way to John, Dems didn't cause higher gas prices but, then you are a republican aren't you? You are part of the solution or part of the problem. Which one?

$1800 hotel suites! His new fiance is on the trip as a delegate for her NY based business -- And Crist said local governments spend money like drunken sailors! It is very sad.

What a bunch of whiners! It takes money to make money. With the Dems screwing us with higher gas prices, it takes even more effort for Florida to attract good businesses. Great job Governor! Keep up the pressure on the Do Nothing Democrat Congress!!

What an arrogant ill timed decision on Governor Crist's part. Normally he would seem like the first to say that a trip of this sort was not prudent, however he sees fit to go on it at taxpayer expense. As Governor of Florida. He needs to be in Fl.

They never stop abusing taxpayers, this Governor has been a big disappointment! It's almost akin to the people are starving they have no bread "let them eat cake" or "Nero fiddling while Rome burned"

I know it's expensive, but the private group is paying part of it. In some countries these type of "face to face" meeting are necessary. If it brings Jobs and Commerce to Florida, who can say it wasn't worth it?

This is the most flgrant abuse of taxpayer money I have ever seen. Lets see the proof from prior trips that supposedly generated more than $300-million and created 200 jobs. NOT!! Enjoy your taxpayer paid for HONEYMOON, CHARLIE AND CAROLE.

Thousand of Europeans visit Florida every year. This is as stupid as when Katherine Harris used the same lame excuse to charge taxpayers for her European
jaunts. His fiance is a "delegate" for a NY based business. This man is an idiot......

Well I sure know that I feel like we are getting screwed. I am sure he is. This must be the taxpayer's pre-wedding gift. I can't wait to see the wedding gift they chose. We must be a state of morons.

I think that if you ask anyone of the people who have been laid off - either Dem or Rep, they'd all think this is a waste! $6B worth of cutbacks and now a pre-wedding honeymoon. Nice, huh? Thanks, Chas and Carole!! We now know where we really stand!!
