Deadline is today to register to vote in state primary

Today is the last day to register to vote in the Aug. 24 statewide primary election.

Applications must be received or postmarked by 11:59 p.m. today to be eligible.

Florida is a closed primary state, so in order to vote in a Republican or Democratic contest, a voter must be registered with that party. Voters who aren't registered in either party can still vote in the primary, but only for nonpartisan races such as school boards or judges.

• Pinellas County residents can go to www.VotePinellas.com or call (727) 464-6788.

• Pasco County residents can go to www.PascoVotes.com or call (352) 521-4302.

• Hernando County residents can go to www.hernandovotes.com or call (352) 754-4125.
