ST. PETERSBURG — The Suncoast Tiger Bay Club awarded its Thomas Paine Common Sense Award on Wednesday evening to longtime Tampa Bay Times reporter Lucy Morgan.
The award is given to recognize lengthy and exemplary service by someone who has exhibited extraordinary courage and achievement.
Morgan started working for the Times in 1968 and won a Pulitzer Prize for investigative reporting in 1985. She is retiring March 1.
Also honored with the 2012 Benjamin Franklin distinguished leadership award was former state Sen. Dennis Jones.
The awards were presented at the club's annual dinner.
