22-year-old pedestrian killed by truck on U.S. 19

PALM HARBOR — A 22-year-old Palm Harbor man died Tuesday after he was struck by a box truck while crossing U.S. 19.

Florida Highway Patrol troopers say the accident happened about 1:20 p.m. at the intersection of U.S. 19 and Pine Ridge Way S in Palm Harbor, just north of Nebraska Avenue.

Patrick John Vawter-Beaird, trying to cross the highway from east to west, stepped from the center median and was hit by a southbound 2000 Isuzu truck that was traveling in the inside lane. He was airlifted to Bayfront Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead just after 2 p.m., said FHP Sgt. Steve Gaskins.

Neither the driver, 28-year-old Mirsad Rahimic, nor his passenger, 26-year-old Sakib Rahimic, were injured. Both men are from St. Petersburg.

Troopers said they do not believe alcohol was a factor in the crash, which remained under investigation Tuesday evening.
