NEW PORT RICHEY — A Pasco County 911 supervisor facing possible disciplinary action for sleeping on the job resigned Wednesday.
Phillip Goodman quit his post at the 911 communications center just as a predisciplinary hearing with the county's personnel director, Barbara DeSimone, was about to begin.
Goodman was already facing punishment for nodding off once when he reportedly fell asleep again.
He was suspended Sunday, pending the outcome of an investigation as well as a medical evaluation into whether a physical ailment caused him to fall asleep.
Goodman started at the dispatch center in November 2007 and oversaw at least four 911 operators and emergency dispatchers. He worked the 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. shift.
County officials said he was charged with other infractions in addition to sleeping, including allowing his girlfriend to hang out at the center and leaving for extended periods.
