FHP: Clearwater man, 76, killed after suffering medical emergency

TAMPA — A 76-year-old man died early Tuesday morning after experiencing a medical emergency and then striking with a roadside barrier, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The unidentified Clearwater man was driving a 2015 Mitsubishi Mirage southbound on the entrance ramp to the Veterans Expressway from Hillsborough Avenue when the FHP said he suffered a medical episode and lost control.

He veered off the road and onto the paved shoulder, where he struck the crash attenuator, which is meant to act as a crash cushion.

He was pronounced dead at the scene, troopers said.
