WESLEY CHAPEL — A 44-year-old Tampa man was arrested Saturday night after Florida Highway Patrol troopers said he drunkenly crashed into a fire truck assisting with another crash, then drove off.

The incident took place shortly after 10 p.m., according to the FHP. Troopers were investigating a single-vehicle crash along Interstate 75, south of State Road 56.

Thomas McCrimmon III, was driving a 2008 Honda Element southbound on Interstate 75, the FHP said, when he crashed into a Pasco Fire Rescue vehicle that was parked there helping with the crash scene.

After the collision, McCrimmon then fled the scene, troopers said. He was soon pulled over by a Pasco County Sheriff’s Office deputy. The FHP report said he did not suffer any injuries.

McCrimmon was arrested on charge of driving under the influence and leaving the scene of a crash, the FHP said. His jail status was unknown Monday.
