TAMPA — The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office now has Facebook and Twitter accounts in Spanish.
The agency celebrated the official launch of the accounts on Wednesday. Sheriff Chad Chronister said the goal is to connect with an increasing number of Spanish-speaking residents in a county where roughly 30 percent are of Hispanic descent.
"It is important that our message of service and safety not get lost in translation, so we are bringing the message to them in their language," Chronister said in a news release.
A spokeswoman said the accounts will include content about issues affecting the Hispanic community, including warnings about scams.
