The Pinellas County Sheriff's Office is hiring school resource officers to help fulfill a state requirement to have an armed guard in every school by July 1.
The starting salary is $46,410 for the sworn deputy position, which would have a Monday through Friday schedule and a take-home car, according to an announcement by the agency.
Applicants with three or more years of certified experience are eligible for a $3,000 signing bonus and relocation stipend of $3,000 from out of state; $500 from Manatee, Hillsborough or Pasco counties; and $1,500 for everywhere else in Florida.
The mandate is part of a school security bill passed by the Legislature on the heels of the Feb. 14 shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High.
Applicants must be at least 21 and tobacco-free six months prior to applying and through the duration of the job.
