ST. PETERSBURG ó A man died Friday after falling from a downtown apartment building, police said.

Detectives believe the 38-year-old man jumped from the seventh floor of the Hermitage at 151 7th St. S about 6:30 p.m.

"At this point, all indications are that this is a suicide," said St. Petersburg police spokeswoman Yolanda Fernandez.

Investigators did not release the manís identity.

Shortly after he jumped, the manís body lay in the middle of Second Avenue S near the buildingís parking garage entrance covered by a yellow sheet. He was about 30 feet from the base of the building.

An officer who was nearby when the man jumped saw him in the air, Fernandez said. The officer tried to administer cardiopulmonary resuscitation on the man after he landed, Fernandez said.
