TAMPA — An abandoned backpack that stirred the suspicion of authorities, who briefly closed part of W Hillsborough Avenue Saturday afternoon as a precaution, turned out to be filled with personal items, sheriff's deputies said. Deputies closed Hillsborough west of the Veterans Expressway after a call came in at 1:10 p.m. from the Florida Highway Patrol. A motorist noticed the backpack next to a utility line along the roadside. A Hillsborough Sheriff's Office bomb squad determined the bag was not a threat and West Hillsborough Avenue reopened to traffic about 4:15 p.m.
