1-year-old injured in Wesley Chapel crash has died

WESLEY CHAPEL — A 1-year-old girl, who was injured in a car crash Thursday night on Bruce B. Downs Boulevard that claimed the life of a Brandon man, has died.

The girl, Jaylin Dominguez, died at St. Joseph's Hospital in Tampa on Saturday, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Jaylin was riding with her parents in a 2004 Honda that was hit head-on by a 2010 Cadillac driven by Raul John Bertran Jr., 67, of Brandon, around 8 p.m.

Bertran was southbound when he veered into the northbound lanes, striking the Honda, the patrol said.

Bertran was pronounced dead at the scene.

Jaylin's parents, 20-year-old Nadine Maldonado of Tampa and 25-year-old Simon T. Dominguez of Wesley Chapel, were also taken to St. Joseph's Hospital, where they were listed in fair condition Sunday night.

An investigation is ongoing.
