13-year-old girl hit by pickup in front of Largo skating rink

LARGO — A 13-year-old girl was seriously injured late Friday as she crossed the street in front of a skating rink.

The incident happened about 11 p.m. in front of Super Skate of Pinellas, 9185 Ulmerton Road.

Police said Hanna Henderson was crossing Ulmerton Road northbound as her grandmother pulled into the skate rink to take her home. A Ford F-150 pickup truck driven by Jeffery Chandler was traveling west and hit her as she ran across the dark road, police said.

She was taken by helicopter to Bayfront Medical Center with life-threatening injuries, but has been upgraded to stable condition. She was then transferred to All Children's Hospital.

No charges have been filed, and police say there was no indication of driver impairment.
