28-year-old motorcyclist dies in Pinellas Park crash

PINELLAS PARK — A 28-year-old man died Wednesday night after crashing his motorcycle into the back of a car, troopers said.

John Owen Baker of St. Petersburg was speeding east on Park Boulevard as he approached the back of a 2000 Ford Contour, officials said.

Baker braked to avoid colliding with the car but lost control of the motorcycle, flipped onto his side and collided with the back of the Ford, troopers said.

Baker, who was wearing a helmet, died at the scene.

Neither the Ford driver, Bruce Alan Morrison, 58, nor the passenger, Claire E. Morrison, 53, were injured. Both had been wearing seat belts.

Florida Highway Patrol officials estimated the Ford sustained $2,000 in damage.

An investigation is under way.
