3-month-old boy dies in Clearwater traffic crash

CLEARWATER — A 3-month-old boy died of injuries sustained in a two-vehicle crash shortly before 6 p.m. Thursday, Clearwater police said. The infant, identified as Alden Perez, was ejected from his car seat. He died at Morton Plant Hospital. The baby's 19-year-old mother, Priscilla Baltazar, and a second child, 3-year-old Isaac Perez, were hospitalized with injuries that police said were not life-threatening. Police said the accident occurred when a 2007 Mazda SUV, driven by 30-year-old Edgar Rivera of Dunedin, hit Baltazar's 2001 Honda as she drove north in the curb lane on Keene Road. Rivera, who had been going south, was trying to turn onto a small passageway to get to N Venus Avenue, which runs parallel to Keene. Traffic in the median and middle lanes had been stopped for a red light at Drew Street, police said. Rivera refused medical treatment at the scene. Clearwater police are investigating. No charges had been filed late Thursday.
