5-year-old nearly drowns at Pinellas Park birthday party

Boy, 5, nearly drowns at birthday party

A 5-year-old St. Petersburg boy is hospitalized with life-threatening injuries after nearly drowning Saturday at a birthday party, deputies said.

At about 2:40 p.m., another child noticed Cash'us Pashaun Elias was not moving in a pool at 6539 Bonnie Bay Circle N, where between 30 and 40 people had gathered, Pinellas County Sheriff's deputies said.

After someone called 911, Lealman Fire Rescue revived Elias, deputies said. He was taken to a local hospital, where he remained Saturday night.

The incident, which appears to be an accident, is under investigation, deputies said.
