50-year-old bicyclist critically injured in Lutz crash

LUTZ — A 50-year-old bicyclist was critically injured after he was struck by a car while crossing U.S. 41 late Tuesday, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Richard Terry Boone was taken by helicopter to St. Joseph's Hospital after the 10:15 p.m. crash on U.S. 41 near Crystal Lake Road, according to the FHP.

Boone was riding across U.S. 41 from east to west when he was hit by a southbound car driven by 47-year-old Cara Kopp of Clearwater. Boone did not yield the right of way, troopers said. The left front portion of Kopp's Kia Optima hit the bicycle, causing Boone to be thrown into the car.

Kopp was not injured.
