74-year-old pedestrian killed near veteran's hospital in Tampa

TAMPA — A 74-year-old man died Thursday after he was hit by a car while crossing Bruce B. Downs Boulevard near the veterans hospital in north Tampa.

The man, Ronald Barth Early Stump, was walking across Bruce B. Downs Boulevard from the area of the Shimberg Library at the University of South Florida to James A. Haley VA Medical Center at 9:26 a.m. when he was struck by a 2006 Nissan Sentra, Hillsborough deputies said.

Ebony Woods, 25, who was driving north on the inside left lane of Bruce B. Downs near 131st Street, struck Stump as he walked across the street, deputies said.

Stump was transported to St. Joseph's Hospital, where he died, deputies said.

No charges have filed.
