83-year-old Seminole man killed after being struck by car in crosswalk

A Seminole man died Saturday after being struck in a crosswalk with a sedan driven by an 85-year-old man, the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office said.

L. C. Dudley, of Seminole, was driving a 2004 Mercury Grand Marquis south on 113th Street N at 74th Avenue around 8:45 a.m. At the same time, James M. Wheeler, 83, was walking east on 113th Street N in a crosswalk. He had crossed the first two southbound lanes before being hit.

Wheeler was pronounced dead at the scene. Dudley and his passenger, who is 11, were not injured.

Deputies say neither alcohol nor speed appeared to be a factor in the incident. The investigation is ongoing.
