88-year-old Dover man dies from injuries in October crash

DOVER — An 88-year-old man involved in an October crash died of his injuries last weekend, the Florida Highway Patrol has reported.

Troopers say that at about noon on Oct. 6, a Ford Ranger heading east on Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard in eastern Hillsborough County slowed to turn left on Sumner Road.

Meanwhile, Eugene Johnson, 88 — who was driving a 1990 Chevy pickup truck behind the Ranger — attempted to pass the Ranger in the westbound lane.

Johnson hit the driver's side of the Ranger as it turned left, FHP says.

Johnson sustained serious injuries and was taken to Tampa General Hospital. He died Saturday at the Central Park Health and Rehabilitation Center.

The other driver, Joseph Obermuller, 61, sustained minor injuries.

WASHINGTON — Before taking their long summer break, the Supreme Court justices are poised to act on the Trump administration's travel ban and a separation of church and state dispute involving a Missouri church playground.

Justice Anthony Kennedy, shown in 2007, has given no public sign that he would step down this year and give President Donald Trump his second high court pick in the first months of his administration.
