TAMPA — An elderly man died Wednesday of his injuries from a hit-and-run incident earlier this week.

William John Thompson, 93, was crossing near the 2800 block of East Busch Boulevard on Tuesday morning when he was struck by a gold 1995 Saturn, Tampa Police said. Thompson hit the hood and the windshield of the car.

Police said Thompson did not use the crosswalk.

The driver then drove west on Busch Boulevard, and the car was found abandoned with a smashed windshield along the side of the road near 18th and Fairbanks streets, police said.

Witnesses reported there were multiple people inside the Saturn at the time. Detectives said the passengers weren't facing charges, though charges were possible if they continued to withhold information about a crime.

Anyone with information regarding the driver or passengers of the Saturn can call (800) 873-8477.
