Driver, 22, has seizure, then dies after car ends up underwater

WESLEY CHAPEL — A 22-year-old Lutz man died after suffering a seizure that caused him to drive a car into a pond on Monday evening, according to the Pasco County Sheriff’s Office.

The 2002 Hyundai Sonata crashed into a pond at Wesley Chapel District Park at 7727 Boyette Road at about 8:26 p.m., deputies said.

Two passengers, Hayden Breezewhite, 21, and Matthew Franklin, 22, both of Lutz, were able to escape uninjured, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The driver, whose identity was not released, was trapped in the water for a some time, deputies said.

He was pulled from the vehicle and later pronounced dead at Florida Hospital Wesley Chapel, troopers said.

A photo taken from the scene shows the car almost completely submerged in the water.

No other details about this incident were released.
