WIMAUMA — A 30-year-old man died on Thursday after his sedan crashed head-on into a dump truck, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The crash took place at about 6 p.m. on U.S. 301 near Lightfood Road.

Gerardo Yslas of Immokalee was driving a 2012 Nissan Altima south on U.S. 301, troopers said. Ariel Valera-Ramirez, 28, of Tampa was driving a 1993 Peterbilt dump truck north on U.S. 301.

Yslas crossed over the road's center line and drove into the path of the dump truck, the FHP said.

Yslas was taken to Tampa General Hospital where he was pronounced dead. Valera-Ramirez suffered minor injuries, troopers said.

Both were wearing seat belts at the time of the crash. Pictures from the crash scene show the front end of the Altima suffered severe damage.

Troopers said Valera-Ramirez will not face charges.
