HUDSON — A 30-year-old man died after he was struck by a car and thrown off the motorcycle he was riding.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, Derek Fingerle, of Hudson, was traveling south on U.S. 19 in the center lane about 8:20 p.m. Saturday. Michael Thienes, 67, was driving a 2011 GMC Arcadia through the parking lot of a furniture store off the highway north of Denton Avenue.

Thienes, of Hudson, pulled onto U.S. 19 into the path of Fingerle, troopers said. The motorcycle hit the left side of the Arcadia, ejecting Fingerle.

He died at the scene. The crash closed several lanes of U.S. 19 for four hours.
