DADE CITY — An 81-year-old man died Monday after he rode his bicycle into the path of a car on U.S. 301, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
Joseph Henry Mensenger, of Dade City, was riding south on the sidewalk along the highway around 8 a.m., according to the FHP. When he tried to cross the highway’s southbound lanes, he was hit by a Chevrolet Cruze driven by 69-year-old Gerald Abrams, also traveling south.
Mensenger was taken to an area hospital, where he died of his injuries, according to the FHP. Abrams was uninjured. No charges were announced as of Monday afternoon.
