MULBERRY — A 12-year-old Plant City boy died Tuesday when the car he was riding in turned into the path of a semitrailer on State Road 60, authorities said.

Miguel Resendiz was riding in an eastbound BMW 328xi when its driver, 29-year-old Maricela Resendiz of Plant City, tried to turn north onto Bailey Road and crossed into the path of a westbound 2006 Freightliner semi truck, according to the Florida Highway Patrol. The semi struck the right front portion of the BMW.

Miguel Resendiz, who was riding in the front passenger seat, died at the scene. Maricela Resendiz and a second passenger, 4-year-old Angel Resendiz, were seriously injured and taken to local hospitals for treatment. All three people in the BMW were wearing seatbelts, troopers said.
