PLANT CITY — An Amtrak train slammed into a semi-trailer truck Tuesday afternoon, cutting the trailer in half, authorities said.

The crash happened about 2:30 p.m. at the intersection of Highway 92 and Park road, Hillsborough sheriff's deputies said. The truck delivering tires to an automotive business was turning into a driveway when the train collided with the center of the trailer, splitting it in two.

The driver of the semi was not injured. There were eight employees and 90 passengers on the train. Three people were taken to a local hospital with what deputies called likely "stress related" issues.
