BROOKSVILLE — A crash on southbound Interstate 75 south of State Road 50 in Brooksville has left one woman dead and two more injured, one seriously, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

At almost 3 a.m., a 2005 Ford Escape driven by 49-year-old Verena Wartmann, of Greenwood, In, was heading south on I-75 with three passengers when she swerved across the lanes, hitting the guardrail several times, FHP said. The car flipped over the rail and into the center median, landing on its roof.

One of Wartmann's passengers, 16-year-old Marylouise Wartmann, also of Greenwood, was killed after she was thrown from the overturning car, FHP said.

Verena Wartman was seriously injured and taken to St. Joseph's Hospital. Another passenger, Bettina Hauch, 41, of Rheinfelden, Switzerland, was taken to Brooksville Regional Hospital with minor injuries, and another, Annekathrin Wartmann, 20, of Greenwood, was not injured.

FHP asks any witnesses to the crash to call investigators at (800) 500-1240.
