SAN ANTONIO – A 23-year-old Brooksville man died in a car accident this morning on State Road 52 west of the Interstate 75 exit, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Richard A. Rosado was driving his 1997 Ford SUV west on SR 52 about 9:30 a.m. and tried to pass another car – a 1997 Ford pickup truck – on the right, the FHP report states. Rosado's car went off the road onto the shoulder near Levi Loop, lost control and swerved left into the path of the pickup, the report said. Those cars collided and the SUV kept going, across the eastbound lanes of SR 52 and into the woods, hitting a ditch and flipping several times. Rosado died.

His passenger, 24-year-old Jose M. Mendoza of Dade City, was ejected from the car. He was taken to St. Joseph's Hospital in critical condition.

The driver of the pickup truck, James D. Glisson, 51, of Tampa, suffered minor injuries, according to the report.
