TAMPA — Two southbound lanes of Interstate 275 have opened at Sligh Avenue after a three-car accident shut down traffic, said the Florida Highway Patrol.

The crash happened about 11:30 a.m. Troopers had just cleared another accident in the same spot — a garbage truck lost control and ended up over a guardrail, blocking the right lanes for about 45 minutes, said FHP spokesman Larry Kraus.

Cars were still sluggish moving through the area, and a driver failed to notice brake lights ahead, Kraus said. That car crashed into the car in front of it, causing it to crash into the car ahead of it, too.

Both drivers who were hit were taken to St. Joseph's Hospital in critical condition, Kraus said. Their names and updated conditions have not been released.
