MADEIRA BEACH — Pinellas deputies have identified a St. Petersburg man as the driver killed in a crash on Gulf Boulevard Wednesday night.

Dana A. Pighetti, 64, of 1135 79th St. S was driving a convertible Lotus roadster kit car north on Gulf Boulevard when he struck a Saturn Vue turning left onto Gulf from 147th Avenue. The Saturn pulled into the path of the roadster, deputies said.

The roadster struck the SUV on its left side, said sheriff's spokeswoman Marianne Pasha.

First responders performed CPR on Pighetti, who was later pronounced dead at Palms of Pasadena Hospital.

Gulf Boulevard does not have a stoplight at 147th Avenue. The SUV had a stop sign on 147th Avenue.

The crash happened at 7:15 p.m. Wednesday.

Deputies identified Gerald McNulty, 74, of Ontario, Canada, as the driver of the Saturn. They said McNulty's wife and another Ontario couple were passengers of the SUV.

McNulty was hospitalized with injuries that were not considered life threatening. His passengers were not hurt but went with him, Pasha said.

They are vacationing in Treasure Island, she said.

The crash remains under investigation.
