A woman suffered life-threatening injuries Saturday afternoon when a taxi hit her as she rode a bicycle across Gulf Boulevard in Madeira Beach.

Sissel Jangaard, 51, of 575 Crystal Drive in Madeira Beach, was listed in critical condition at Bayfront Medical Center on Saturday night. The Pinellas County Sheriff's Office is investigating and has not indicated who was at fault.

Deputies say a taxi driven by Darryl Giese, 41, of Treasure Island, was headed southbound on Gulf Boulevard when it apparently struck Jangaard. She was riding a bike from the beach across Gulf Boulevard just south of the intersection with 146th Avenue.

Giese, who declined medical treatment, was driving a 1999 Toyota Camry owned by Bay Area Taxi Service.
