Bayshore Boulevard staircase stops pickup in its tracks

RECOMMENDED READING

TAMPA — A truck crashed into a concrete pedestrian staircase along Bayshore Boulevard on Friday, causing motorists and joggers to pause and gawk at the truck as it stood almost vertical on its back end.

The driver, Michael Adams, 30, was not injured, police say. He was cited with careless driving.

Police say that at about 7 a.m., Adams was driving his 2002 Ford F-150 north on Bayshore Boulevard. As he rounded a curve near the Davis Islands Bridge, he lost control and slid off the road.

The truck skidded across the wet grass along the shoulder of the roadway and then struck a staircase next to the bridge, police say.

It stopped on the staircase.
