Bicyclist hit by car on I-4 exit ramp and dies

TAMPA -- A bicyclist was killed Wednesday when he was hit by a car on the Interstate 4 exit ramp west of U.S. 301, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

Marcus Fowler, 52, of Tampa, was traveling westbound on a bicycle at 4:03 p.m. Wednesday on the I-4 exit ramp west of U.S. 301 in the outside shoulder, the FHP said.

Ruben Batista, 47, of Zephyrhills, was driving a Ford truck going eastbound on the ramp in the inside lane. Batista made an improper lane change into the path of a car in the outside lane driven by Nicholas Adam Sarazin, 24, of Tampa, the FHP said.

Authorities said Sarazin tried to avoid a collision and swerved into the outside shoulder. The front of Sarazin's car hit Fowler on the right side, sending him backward, the FHP said. Fowler died at the scene.
