Bicyclist seriously injured in Clearwater collision

CLEARWATER — A bicyclist was taken to Bayfront Medical Center with critical injuries after colliding with a vehicle Sunday afternoon.

Authorities said Thomas Farrell, a 48-year-old off-duty Belleair police officer, was driving through the intersection at Drew Street and Old Coachman Road on a green light at about 1:30 p.m. when a man rode into his path.

The bicyclist's name has not been released.

Police said Farrell had been westbound on Drew and the bicyclist was riding north to south when the accident occurred.

No other details were released.
