Bicyclist injured after being struck by car
A 59-year-old woman suffered life-threatening injuries Wednesday evening when she was hit by a car while riding her bicycle in Dunedin.
Catherine G. Ashenfelter of Clearwater was taken to Bayfront Medical Center after the crash, which occurred about 6:15 p.m. at the intersection of Alt. U.S. 19 and Tradewinds Drive in Dunedin.
Pinellas sheriff's deputies said Ann M. Tamboe, 78, of Dunedin was driving a Chrysler 200 north on Alt. U.S. 19 when she turned left onto Tradewinds Drive, striking Ashenfelter, who was headed south on Alt. U.S. 19 in the bike lane. Tamboe was not injured. Deputies said neither speed nor impairment were factors in the crash. An investigation was ongoing.
