Body found of man who fell overboard near Apollo Beach

APOLLO BEACH — The body of a Valrico man was found late Friday night, more than six hours after a friend reported he had fallen overboard.

The body of Curtis Andrew Shepherd, 23, was recovered just before midnight after rescue efforts by the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office and Coast Guard units from Apollo Beach, according to Gary Morse, a spokesman for the commission.

At 5:22 p.m., someone called the Sheriff's Office saying his friend had fallen into the water, said Debbie Carter, a sheriff's spokeswoman. The caller wasn't sure of the location but could see the Lands End Marina, which is at 1212 Apollo Beach Blvd.

An earlier version of this story gave an incorrect name for the marina.
