PINELLAS PARK — A 15-year-old boy was hospitalized Friday morning after he was hit by a car on his way to school.

The boy was walking to Pinellas Park High, 6305 118th Ave, just before 7 a.m. when he crossed the street in front of the school away from the crosswalk and into approaching traffic, police said.

"According to witnesses, he decided to go right then, in front of the cars," said Pinellas Park Police spokesman Sgt. Brian Unmisig.

The boy was taken to Bayfront Medical Center, police said, and his injuries were not thought to be life-threatening.
